Love every day of it. Bad days, good days, still love it. Most of my experience is ER and everyday was a totally different ball of wax. Been with people for some of the most profound moments of their life! Seen babies born, people die (expected and unexpected) seen totally insane people do insane things and insane people have moments of total sanity and wisdom. I love it. I can't imagine myself being happy doing anything else. As others have written the challenge and being of service to others is incredibly rewarding. But it is hard. I work in adolescent psychiatry on a unit for very acute patients who need long term admission. Other hospitals I have worked at serving the same population might admit a patient for a week. On my unit we admit for 9–18 months. I have seen successes I would not have dreamed of but it has come after months of work by our team and the patients. Work spent building self control and self esteem. Teaching them how to be happy. Helping them live lives worth living. Early on they struggle. They have deeply ingrained maladaptive behaviors for getting their needs met. Sometimes this is physical assault. Other times it is emotional manipulation. Very often it is an angry, sad, lonely teenager flailing with their efforts to make it through each day. To help them heal takes patience, a thick skin and deep emotional reserves. By the end of many days I am spent. I have to make an active effort to take care of myself so that I do not burn out. But it beats the monotony of office work and I get to save lives. I actually feel qualified to answer this. I have been a nurse for 38 years. I do like being a nurse. Even though I do not like many of the downsides of the lifestyle, I do enjoy being a nurse. I was a bedside nurse for over 30 years. I have been working in an informatics role since 2009. Before, I cared for the patients. My efforts directly affected the patient and I was able to give comfort to them through my efforts. Now, I support care givers. Through my work, I help design the interface that care givers use. I am able to assist the care givers with problems they are having with their computer system. I have found that I get the same kinds of enjoyment in my current role as I did in my last. I think many nurses have this same kind of “rescuer” mentality. We like to know that our efforts are directly easing some discomfort for others. I usually do not mind when people ask me for medical advice. No, I am not a doctor and I will tell them this. But sometimes they just don’t know where to go next, and for that I am happy to guide. Sometimes, it is people who are either pregnant or have new babies. They don’t want to appear dumb to their providers but they have questions. I will do whatever I can to ease their way in this. So, I can absolutely say that I like being a nurse. #realimpact #jobclickhealth
For me nursing is the most rewarding, diverse, and flexible career. There are numerous opportunities to expand your career in a wide variety of venues. I choose critical care nursing for most of my career. As a critical care nurse I worked very closely with all members of the health care team to provide my clients and their significant others with excellent evidence-based nursing care. I was able to coordinate all care provided by the entire health care team.  Relationships were fostered with clients and their significant others, and I enjoyed the opportunity to support them in times of joy, as well as times of sadness. After working as a critical care nurse, I changed my focus and became a Nurse Educator. I now enjoy a career as a professor of nursing in a baccalaureate nursing program. I continue to use my nursing skills as a teacher; however, my focus is now on helping to shape the future of the nursing profession. #realimpact #jobclickhealth

All of the hard work that nurses put forth on a daily basis is all made completely worthwhile when you see a patient who once needed constant care regain their independence. I love my job as an in-home care nurse specifically because it encourages me to keep my skills sharp and think outside the box to handle the situation at hand. It’s just you and the client in the room and there is no one there to serve as a resource. Above all, I am passionate about improving the quality of life for all of my clients and that is a constant validator that I am in the right profession. I am passionate about healthy living, education, and caring for others, but improving the lives of patients is at the core of why I became a nurse. I specialize in caring for people living with multiple sclerosis (MS). MS is a chronic disease with unpredictable symptoms, which can have both a physical and emotional burden. For me, caring for someone means addressing these emotional as well as physical symptoms. Through my work, I am able to connect directly to people living with MS and their care partners, learning about their specific cases, and offering support and tools needed to manage their disease. The opportunity to work so closely with people living with MS allows me to build connections and get to know patients on a personal level—these are the experiences that remind me of the reasons why I love being a nurse. #realimpact #jobclickhealth

One of the things I find most rewarding about being a home care nurse is when I pass someone on the street, or see them out and about after I’ve cared for them. Sometimes they don’t even see me, but I can see how well they’re doing and how well they’ve recovered from an illness or surgery. I’ve lived and worked as a nurse in the same community for about 6 years now, so I often see the people I care for as they recover. It’s great when someone pulls me over on the street to tell me how they’re doing, even when it’s been a while since I’ve seen them. It’s that ‘Hey John, I’m cancer free!’ that really makes my day and helps me know that what we do as home care nurses really does make a difference. #realimpact #jobclickhealth
I love nursing because it allows me to get close to people unlike any other profession. During a trying time in my life, I had a wonderful experience with a nurse that inspired me to change my profession and go into nursing. Satisfaction. It’s like living a Batman life. Every week my schedule gives me two nights of duty in a surgical ICU. Most of the time doctors are not there at need; during an emergency you have only one NURSING partner and you are supposed to revive the patient or at least make his soul stay until reinforcements arrive. Know what? 98 out of 100 times we are able to revive the patient. And yes, the patient will never ever know who was the guardian angel pumping their chest. So when they get discharged after recovering, they thank the doctors profusely for saving their life, while you will be standing there administering life-saving medicine to the needy. Smiling inside, of course. So it's like living a Batman life, literally, but as I said to you earlier, it's a wonderful feeling. And hey! At least you will sleep peacefully the remaining five days. #realimpact #jobclickhealth
I believe the best a person can find for themselves is the career they are called toward. When you do you will never work a day in your life, it will all be for a greater purpose than yourself and will reap rewards that money can never buy. I believe the true nurses are called by God for that purpose. I knew the way God led and opened the doors for me to get into nursing school as a single mother with 4 small sons this was my calling. I enjoyed this for 35 years and wish I could have done it forever. Was it always easy or fun, not, but I knew every day that I was serving the purpose for which I was created and my satisfaction was on those days that even a word, or a back rub, or listening to someone in pain, physically or emotionally I was able to offer some relief and hope. True nursing is when we do more than complete our tasks of the day, true nursing is when we give a piece of ourselves to relieve another person’s suffering. Yes I would do it 100X over and do it with even more dedication and perseverance than at times in the past. I could write for a week and would still have more reasons about why I love my job. But I will pick two reasons, I hope they explain better than I can:- A few years ago, I cared for the mother of a child who had died after their car was involved in an accident. He was, quite simply, her reason for living. And he was gone. I cried with her, her grief was overwhelming. She rang the department just over a year later. She had, she told me, met someone and had just given birth to a baby boy. How many other jobs allow us to be so closely involved in the best and worse times of someone's life? More recently, I was performing chest compressions on a child in cardiac arrest. We paused to check the rhythm. It was a shockable rhythm - relatively rare in a child. 'If I was teaching this, we'd shock that' The defibrillator charged, the shock delivered. With my hands placed, once again, on the child's chest, I felt the heart start to thud. I may not be the most well-paid, the hours can be tough, we see awful things sometimes, I have been punched, kicked, spat on and abused. But these moments, these precious moments of success and, sometimes, hope, make me love my job. #realimpact #jobclickhealth
I don't know where to begin. As mentioned by other nurses, we each have our own list of reasons why we love what we do. Anyway, I have found nursing to be an interesting, exciting and challenging combination of skills used to take care of others. At any given moment, I have to draw from any number of disciplines at any given moment. Our training teaches us to assess situations, make quick decisions and apply our education about anatomy, physiology, culture, religion, research, chemistry, medicine, math, sociology, psychology, first aid, wound care, developmental levels, language, communication, etc. - and help others heal.  While this may seem like one goal, the path to healing of our patients take varies with each person in our care. This is the heart of nursing. It's what makes it meaningful, exciting, scary, depressing, frustrating, fulfilling, physically demanding, as well as many other conflicting emotions at the same time. The intensity of the work gives nurses an unspoken bond that can forge friendships among coworkers rather quickly. This same intensity allows nurses to also have rather graphic meal time conversations that would likely upset most not in the medical field. The variety of needs our patients present also makes each shift potentially different from the next. So, in other words, this is why nursing rocks! #realimpact #jobclickhealth

It's just proper that I share love: a portion of the things that I completely LOVE about being a nurse! So clutch your seats and lock in, there is a considerable measure of LOVE in this post! 1. I cherish the timetable of being an nurse! I work 3 days seven days, and it is completely wonderful! Now and then going into work, on the off chance that I get an extreme patient task, I am support that I just have 2 more days left! I simply need to do what needs to be done and push through if gave an unpleasant week! Many individuals think, "Gracious you simply work 3 days seven days, you scarcely work!" Ummm hold the telephone… .I won't go there. Truly. I just work 3 days seven days, however I work similarly as hard as you do in 5 days, yet in three… .and possibly somewhat more. Try not to kick me off. In any case, in any case, I cherish just working 3 days seven days! It gives personal time to go through with my sweet nieces amid the week and stay away from the group at some of my most loved spots since I can go amid the ordinary "M-F" work week! 2. I get the opportunity to work with a portion of the coolest individuals on the planet! Nobody gets nursing like your nursing colleagues! They see the things you see, and do the frightful filthy undertakings that you do! They can chuckle about the unrefined things you experience, enable you "to tidy up a patient", and after that make a beeline for lunch with you the following moment like it's nothing! There is only a quality that medical caretakers have that is appealing! I cherish them! They are some of my closest companions! They give it a second thought and comprehend life in a way that generally don't! We see the incentive in it and how valuable and brisk it can be! I'm so appreciative to work close by and some magnificent ones! 3. I get the opportunity to meet some REALLY magnificent patients and families! I am managing ages 15 to 100+ years of age! There is such a long way to go from these individuals! One of my most loved patients was 100+ years of age! She was the cutest old woman, and was such a spit fire for her age! #realimpact #jobclickhealth
My passion for nursing stems from being influenced by two incredible historical leaders— Clara Barton and Mother Theresa. Neither are traditional nurses by occupation, but both spent their lives serving people in times of hardship, loss, and devastation. Their example has inspired me to love nursing by making a difference in the lives of others. The early foundation of Clara Barton’s vision and the compassion and selfless service of Mother Theresa have been constant reminders throughout my nursing career of what really matters.
